With these simple everyday tips you will be able to take control of what, when and how you eat to ensure a healthy mind in a healthy body. They will help you enjoy food, improve your digestions, keep your weight under control, and stay fit and healthy.

1. Eat slowly and chew your food really well. Put your knife and fork down after each mouthful. That way you become mindful of the process, appreciative of the taste of food and it helps you slow down. Chewing slowly not only helps you enjoy the taste and flavour of food, but also helps your digestion.

2. Avoid distractions like watching TV or reading while you are eating as it is very easy to overeat when your brain is busy doing something else and you do not notice the signals it is sending you of being full.

3. Make sure you eat your 5 a day. Eating minimum 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day is recommended by World Health Organization.

4. Drink enough of water. Recommendations regarding how much water is right for you vary, so I recommend drinking as much as you are comfortable with (your body knows better). Just make sure you don’t forget to drink - have a glass of water on your desk while you’re working and take a sip now and then.
Water is also a good snack replacement between the meals - if you are feeling peckish, have a few sips of water with lemon and/or ginger instead of reaching for a chocolate bar.

5. Watch your alcohol intake. You might think that drinks are calorie-free, but replacing a slice of cake with a pint of beer does not work! A glass of wine contains about 126 calories and a pint of beer around 215 calories according to NHC*.

6. Keep a food diary – write down what you eat during the day, the times you eat and if you have any unwanted symptoms. like bloating, after certain foods. This will help you track down any unhealthy eating habits you might not be aware of as well as discover any food intolerances.

7. Use small crockery to avoid overloading your plate with more food than you need.

8. Avoid snacking between meals – it will improve your appetite and you will be able to enjoy your meals more. If you can’t do without a snack, choose fruit, nuts and seeds, or a glass of water.

9. Exercise is the best way to burn extra calories and keep you in good health - everybody knows it but very few of us do it. Here's a little lifehack for you: try jogging on the spot or doing squats or sit-ups while watching TV.

10. Put a mirror on the wall opposite the dinner table – watching yourself eat is not a pretty picture:)
